Description of what inspires the candidate

"I am inspired by joy, empowerment, kindness, resilience and people who exude these qualities. Spending time on causes that have importance to me personally brings me great joy. I thrive on opportunities to empower the community to make positive impacts. I have been involved with helping underserved populations that face the most adversity and am inspired by the resilience of these folks. The way a person, whose misfortunes I cannot really fathom experiencing myself, can still exude joy and their own desire to empower the community inspires me the most."

Description of what the candidate would bring to the SDCBA Board

"I bring my unique perspective and experience as a community leader and solo law practitioner.  I have also worked for small and large civil litigation law firms.  Additionally, I have leadership experience with both legal and non-legal organizations and am excited to bring that experience to the SDCBA. I have had leadership roles related to advocating for those living or near living on the street, environmental conservation groups, and diversity inclusion groups.  What I have enjoyed most with my SDCBA involvement is connecting with law students and providing a welcoming connection between law students and lawyers. I look forward to furthering law student involvement with the SDCBA.

My hope is that my presence inspires others to lead in the community. I will aim to utilize my unique experiences to inspire more membership, lend my knowledge of board governance, and promote inclusiveness in our community."

Other information the candidate would like to share with the SDCBA membership

"I decided to run now because of the circumstances of this time.  I never thought I would live through a pandemic that significantly impacted so many from death to business closures to layoffs and furloughs to working from home and home schooling.  Further, many of us have been looking for real change in terms of racial disparity in this country and the world, and we are at a point in time when it seems like real change can happen.  The SDCBA has already taken actions to address the impact of the pandemic and has taken steps to be involved with the racial justice movement. I look forward to contributing my experience to this Board as the SDCBA decides how to continue to lead San Diego’s legal community through these turbulent and significant times."
